Parish-church
Now, it is hard to tell what induced József Esterházy to start a new, large scale ecclesiastical building after haveing settled the Camaldolese, the Capuchins and Piarists. Was it the remorse for scattering the remains of the church in Vértesszentkereszt? The unworthy state of St. Blaise's Church? The beliver's preparation for the next world? The baroque aristocrat's desire for immortalizing his memory? The demanding task required a frofessional architect. Franz Anton Pilgram showed his talent in Majk again after having built the Premonstrant monastery in Klosterbruck - so he seemed to be the right man for the task.
The plans were completed and the building started in 1751, but ceased very soon. After an eighteen-years-long interval - thanks to Ferenc Balogh's competence - again the right architect could go on with the work: Jakab Fellner. When - before being able to finish his work - he was summoned away by the Lord, he was buried here in the crypt of the church, according to his last will. In 1784, the new church was dedicated to the Holy Cross.
