The one-time
Piarist Monestery
Two names -two Jakabs. Two entirely different careers in the last decades of baroque. They were living and working in the same town for five years.
The first career is of Jakab Valero, a Piarist teacher, who was commissioned to come to Tata by his superiors. He started building the monastery and the school - based on his own plans - on 9th March, 1767. In 1772 his order's interests called him away from Tata. He ended his career as a superior of the order.
The other person, Jakab Fellner, came from Moravia. He started his career as a foreman and became the architect who determined the town's appearance. When the other started working practically in the neighbourhood, the building of the count's castle (in this case also based on the builde's own plans) has already been in process. In addition, he was also entrusted with finishing his famous predecessor's, Franz Anton Pilgram's job: the Great Church. It also fell to him to contribute to the Piarists' building.
We do not know whether they knew each other or if the master learnt anything from the professor of the architecture. However, their names became inseparable in the history of the Piarist monestry.
