Geological Park
We not only have a view of the surroundings but of time as well if we climb
up Kálvária Hill. There is not a need for worry as we can easily walk to
the top from the north-east side. The same cannot be said for the west
side. Here, the abandoned precipice of the former quarry rises steeply
from the plateau. It is difficult for us, nonprofesssionals to imagine
that this is a place of pilgramage for both the renowned experts of earth
sciences and the young geologists at the beginning of their careers. It
is they who know the unparalleled values of Tata's Kálvária Hill and who
are aware of the unique oppoertunity offered by this place: the geological
history of the area and all the processes that formed the present relief
can be studied here from Trias to ice age. "Megalodus" cavern allows one
to have a look under and behind the precipe. The flint mine, which belongs
to the geologocal park, proves that the prehistoric man knew, inhabited
and used this territory.
